Ministry of Sending

Spread the love

Dearly Beloved,

How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach except they be sent? As it is written, how beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace and bring glad tiding of good things. Romans 10:14-15.

It is very clear from the above scripture that the strategy God has prescribed for His Church to carry out the task of taking the gospel to the uttermost parts of the earth is through the sending of “called” and “gifted” and eventually “trained” people who will cross cultural, social, racial, ideological, educational and even political barriers to reach to different peoples of the world with the goodnews of God’s salvation; so that they can surrender their lives to Jesus Christ as their Saviour and Lord and to turn away from their idols to worship the one and only true God. Whenever the church has worked according to God’s method, the work of world evangelization has prospered and when the church has followed it’s own plans and thoughts, the work of world  evangelization has slowed down and declined.

As the team of called, gifted, and trained people are sent forth, it is the duty of the church to continue to be a support to them. This support is to be done in various ways. In what ways is the church to be supporting the sent missionaries?
The following are some of the ways that support is to be given to the missionaries as they go across cultures to tell the goodnews.

1. PRAYER: The most important way of supporting missionaries is by praying for them. Pray for their protection from physical and spiritual harm (Rom.15:30, II Thes.3:1-2). Pray that the message will be accepted. Pray that God will open the eyes of the hearers and turn them from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God (Acts 26:18). Pray that God will help the missionaries to present the gospel clearly and with boldness (Eph.6:18-19). Pray that God will stretch forth His hand so that mighty works will be done in the name of Jesus (Acts 4:29-30). Ask for wisdom, boldness, guidance, direction, fruitfulness of the missionaries and for salvation and subsequent establishment of souls (I Thes.1:11-12).

2. Another way of support is sending financial and material support ( I Cor.16:17, Phil.4:10-18)

3. Missionaries can be supported by visits to them on the field ( II Tim 1:16-18, II Tim.4:9, II Cor.7:5-6).

4. Support can be given to missionaries by sending them letters of encouragement, phone calls, Birthday cards and Gifts, heart lifting books, furlong, etc.
